Carved madrone wood. McConnell hollows the interior surface, leaving the outer form intact—the negative space becomes sculptural event, defining object through subtraction rather than addition.
Mixed media — salvaged wood, carving, and textile. A rectangular dark wood base with linear incisions across the surface; an elliptical cavity carved into the upper face reveals smooth burnt sienna interior. A small green crocheted turtle with turquoise felt flippers sits in the carved bowl.
