McConnell layers translucent and opaque materials across wood panel, building depth through successive glazes and textured applications. Light passes through accumulated surfaces, creating spatial recession without illusionism.
Mixed media on salvaged cedar. A square panel divided horizontally: the upper half reads dark cedar grain in charcoal and black; the lower semicircle holds concentric curved striations in white, grey, and dark blue-grey — the moon’s surface as carved wood and layered pigment. McConnell studied poetry and painting at Fairhaven College under Robert Sund; the reflection series is his most formally structured. $3,800. International shipping available.
