McConnell carves red cedar with attention to volumetric form and grain pattern. The sculpture’s organic curves and negative spaces suggest movement within a constrained architectural presence.
Mixed media on salvaged cedar. A horizontal rectangular block, black-dyed. An organic oval depression carved into the top surface holds concentric rings in raw wood tones — ochre to pale tan — like a cross-section through something geological. The surrounding surface carries small carved undulations. The carving is the primary act; the dye is the secondary one. McConnell’s material provenance is always specific to the Pacific Northwest. $800. International shipping available.
