Heron
A heron standing on a rock, neck folded, and patinated in a way that has nothing to do with a real bird: salmon and rose across the body, deep violet down the legs. Duzan uses patina here as a painter uses colour rather than as a founder uses finish, and the naturalism of the modelling makes the artificiality of the surface more pointed. The pose is exact — the weight on one leg, the slight S in the neck — and the colour is entirely invented.
