Prairie Queen
A pronghorn's head mounted on the wall in the posture of a hunting trophy, and every inch of the hide replaced by beadwork — flowers massed at the base of each horn, patterned bands running the length of the muzzle, small glass beads catching light along the jaw. Duzan takes the most unambiguous object of taken-life display and reworks its whole surface into ornament, which does not cancel the reference so much as hold it open. The horns are left plain. They are the only part she does not touch.
