Cinder Spine
A narrow vertical wall piece: forged elements of differing lengths hung in a single column, each one drawn out separately at the forge and set slightly proud of its neighbour. Twenty-five inches tall and eight and a half wide. The rhythm down its length is irregular the way vertebrae are irregular — larger at one end, tapering — and the surface keeps every hammer blow that made it. Cristalli's smaller wall works are studies in one idea repeated with variation, and this is the leanest of them.
