Breeding Ground
Dense clusters of ovals and cells in teal, aubergine and ochre, each ringed with a darker outline, packed across the whole surface with no ground left visible. The forms sit at slightly different depths in the impasto so the eye keeps trying to sort them into layers. It is the most organic of his abstracts — nothing here is straight — and the title is fair warning about how crowded it gets.
