Forest Hike
A path enters at the lower right and curves away into the trees, and the canopy closes right over it — deep blue, magenta, coral and cream blocks packed edge to edge until the top third of the picture is a ceiling. Light waits at the far end of the tunnel, warm and small. Smith usually frames an opening and lets you look through it; here she puts you inside and makes the way out earned. The undergrowth along the path is her loosest paint in the group, dragged wet into wet.
