Oil on canvas — impasto. Currier structures the composition in horizontal bands: cadmium red poppies foreground, olive-green pasture with cattle behind russet fencing, a red barn flanked by yellow-green poplars, pale lavender-blue sky above. Paint is knife-thick throughout. The temperature shift — warm field against cool sky — is the architecture. Currier has painted the Skagit Valley like this for thirty years.
