Poppy III
Three poppies fill the whole canvas at close range, petals in coral and dusty rose with cream at the folded edges and deep blue-violet dropping into each throat. This is a different painter from the one who makes the forest interiors — the strokes are broad and wet, following the curve of each petal rather than building structure, and there is no depth to speak of. What carries over is the temperature: she puts violet where another painter would put shadow, so even a pink flower is held together by cold colour.
