Shift

Julie Anne Mann

A tall diamond of wasp nest set on a panel of deep indigo and umber, a vertical crack running its full height. The lozenge is a shape from heraldry and from mapping; the material is chewed wood and saliva. Mann keeps the nest's own colour — bone, ash, faint ochre — and lets the ground carry all the darkness. Of the wasp nest works this is the most vertical and the most like a figure.
