Under the Crescent Moon
A crescent sits high in a clear blue sky that warms to gold along the horizon, and below it the field is her deepest blue, dabbed thickly. The house is pale and small, catching the last of the warm band. Of all her horizon paintings this is the one where the sky is most obviously a real one — the gradient from cold zenith to warm edge is observed rather than invented — which makes the artificiality of the field beneath it more noticeable, not less.
