The Stop
A wooden shelter stands half-swallowed by growth, painted in dense yellow-greens and umber with the heaviest impasto in Juvonen's work here. There is no bare ground and no flat colour anywhere: every square inch is worked. Against the stripped clarity of his animal paintings this looks like a deliberate opposite — a picture with no isolated subject at all, where the structure and the vegetation are painted with the same mark and only just separate.
