Along The River
A bear built almost entirely from printed newspaper walks left across bands of orange, green and slate. The type is legible in places and Le Van does not hide it — the animal is literally made of text. Thirty by thirty-seven inches. She trained as a printmaker at Cranbrook and quotes Art News on paper as a disobedient medium with primordial powers; a grizzly assembled from newsprint is that idea taken at its word.
