Carbon Record
Forged iron — the title names both material and method: carbon is what the fire leaves in the metal, and record is what the hammer leaves in the carbon. The surface holds the sequence of its own making as permanent information. Cristalli has worked at the forge for thirty years in Washington state, applying traditional hand-forging techniques to a modern aesthetic. Work shown at the National Ornamental Metals Museum, Memphis.
