Standing Formation

Maria Cristalli

Three forged columns of unequal height stand together on the floor, their surfaces worked into vertical striations that read as split basalt. Thirteen inches tall and needing a pedestal. It is a smaller companion to Fracture and Alignment, built from the same vocabulary — hot steel worked to look like cold stone, which is a contradiction Cristalli returns to. The grouping is close enough that the three read as one broken mass rather than three separate objects.
